Item description from seller

Small 4to. [4] p. Fraktur type. Royal ordinance of 23rd October 1769 addressed to the upper courts of the department of trade customs permitting the import of coffee beans, provided duty is paid. It suspends the decree of 26 June 1766 which prohibited the trade and consumption of coffee, explaining that this change of policy aims to save losses in revenue to the crown resulting from widespread smuggling of beans since the introduction of prohibition. Signed with imprints of the king Adolph Friedrich and that of his secretary Daniel Plaan. Hünersdorff, 'Coffee: A Bibliography', p1452.
