Item description from seller

1st printing of the paperback original and true first edition of Ed McBain's 6th novel SIGNED by the late author on the title page with a black marker. Perma Books M-3113 with a cover price of 25c. An 87th Precinct Novel. McBain's first seven books were PBOs published in the U.S. by Perma Books, and this PBO predates the UK hardcover by two years. This is a remarkably well-preserved example. It is tight; the cover art is bright; and there are no reading creases on the spine or the front cover. The binding remains solid, and there are no markings by a previous owner. Shelf wear to the edges of the spine and the top and bottom edges of the front cover. The corners of the front cover and bottom corner of the back cover have softened. A short length of the red fore-edge is lighter due to moisture, and it caused minimal bleeding of red ink along the fore-edge of the final 10 pages of text. Book will be supplied in a fitted polypropylene bag. When listed this was the only autographed copy of the first edition on the site. The mass market paperback was created in 1939 by Pocket Books, a division of Simon & Schuster. Less than 100 years later, the format is being discontinued by publishers and distributors. This has led to a resurgence in the appreciation of the paperback original with original cover art.…

Store description

Operating continuously since 2004, SIGNAL BOOKS specializes in autographed fiction in collector's condition. All books are 1st printings of the 1st edition, unless otherwise noted. All dust jackets are protected in a clear, acid-free sleeve. And 85% of our book inventory is autographed by the author because SB is located near Toronto, an international hub for author events. Regarding condition, we believe in full and frank disclosure. We describe objects conservatively and thoroughly so you won't have any unpleasant surprises. And you may rely on us to take care in packing your order so it will arrive as described. If you've grown tired of buying from dealers who lack the expertise or the willingness to fully describe flaws or who are purposely vague in their descriptions, buy from us and put that aggravation behind you. We ship in sturdy boxes - NOT self-mailers or padded envelopes. And all sales regardless of purchase price are bubble-wrapped and surrounded by Styrofoam peanuts. Please browse our catalogs, including autographed first books, books signed by deceased authors, books signed and dated in the year of publication and Comic Books-Action Figures.
