A scarce and highly collectible history of Stern Pinball, created by Dameon Guess and Joseph Rubinstein and produced through the successfully funded PaperFlock Kickstarter campaign. The project attracted 444 backers and ultimately developed into an oversized, lavishly illustrated history of the company and its predecessors. The finished volume contains 248 high-gloss pages and traces the development of pinball under Data East, Sega and Stern, with extensive photography of machines, artwork, prototypes, production processes, designers and company history. The book also includes a foreword by Slash. The original dust jacket advertises more than 2,800 original photographs and images, including material relating to the making of a pinball machine and individual games spanning decades of production. Featured machines and franchises include Back to the Future, Star Wars, The Simpsons, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Guns N' Roses, Batman Forever, Baywatch, Twister, The X-Files, Starship Troopers, GoldenEye, The Sopranos and many others. This copy bears four large signatures on the title page, making it substantially more desirable than the standard Kickstarter issue. The original Kickstarter offered a signed Limited Edition reward associated with prominent Stern designers and personnel; because this particular copy bears four signatures rather than the five originally advertised for that reward tier, the signatures are offered exactly as photographed rather than attributing every signature without additional verification. The signed Kickstarter editions sold out during the original campaign. Condition: Near Fine overall. Black hardcover boards remain clean and attractive, with a tight, sound binding and clean page block. Interior is bright and well preserved. Original pictorial dust jacket remains crisp and highly presentable, showing only minimal evidence of handling consistent with the Near Fine grade. No significant tears, chips, staining or structural defects observed. Four signatures appear prominently on the title page. Please examine photographs for exact signature placement and condition. An unusually scarce modern pinball reference and an excellent collectible for the serious Stern Pinball, arcade, coin-operated amusement, gaming-history or game-design collection.
