The final script of the winner of the 1962 Academy Award for best adapted screenplay. It was only published in the UK; there was no corresponding American edition. The script reproduces the final version of the text with considerable fidelity, keeping the original scene numbering even though there are scene numbers marked "omitted" throughout. Illustrated with stills of the stars, Spencer Tracy, Montgomery Clift, Burt Lancaster, Maximilian Schell (who won an Oscar), and Judy Garland (who received her second and last nomination for this movie). viii, 182, [2: blank] pages plus inserted plates. First edition (first printing stating "First published 1961" with no indication of later printings). A very good, rather MUSTY copy, with the lines of Irene (played by Judy Garland in the film) MARKED in purple ink and the top of the spine is abraded. The jacket is very good, with light shelfwear. Inscribed, "To D. A. [or perhaps D. W.] with warmest regards and admiration. Abby Mann. Dec. 27, 1961." Your cataloguer was unable to identify the recipient. Very uncommon signed.
