First edition, first printing, signed by Vidal to the flyleaf. Vidal's seventh book, the novel is a retelling of the ancient legend of Paris and the Holden Apple, following a young American's year in post-war Italy, Egypt and France. New York: E.P. Dutton & Company, 1952. Pink textured boards over black cloth spine, lettered in gilt; pp. 375. A very good copy in a very good, unclipped dust jacket. Binding remains tight, sturdy and square, minor wear to extremities. Light dampstain to rear board and the top edge of text block, a touch of offsetting to endpapers, else internally clean. Jacket remains vivid, showing light general shelfwear. A presentable copy, protected in archival mylar.
