SIGNED. 458pp. Octavo [22 cm] Full green cloth with gilt lettering on the front board and backstrip. The extremities are bumped and rubbed, and there is a previous owner's address label on the front pastedown, and a contemporary inscription in ink on the front free endsheet. With a 3" split in the rear endsheet along the hinge, and a crack in the text block at the beginning. The dust jacket is lightly foxed and soiled, has a 3" crease in the rear panel, and has several short closed tears in the edges. Saunders 22. Dale Morgan's solidly researched biography, which includes a large amount of new material, and two previously unknown letters of Jedediah Smith. Inscribed by the author, in the year of publication, on the verso of the front free endsheet. Inscription reads: "With all good wishes - Dale L. Morgan - October 19, 1953.".
