Octavo, green cloth covers with gilt titles, 252 pages. Inscribed by the author on the front free endpaper. Spine titles a bit dulled, else very good. No dust jacket. Henry Justin Smith was managing editor of the Chicago Daily News for many years and hired many writers such as Ben Hecht, Carl Sandburg, Robert Casey, and Sterling North who went on to establish literary careers. Smith himself wrote non fiction about Chicago journalism, and novels featuring Chicago. "Josselyn" is such a novel. "Although his adopted city (Josslyn is from a Chicago suburb) becomes ugly and foul, Josslyn sees it always through the eyes of an idealist." --Chicago in Story by Clarence A. Andrews, p. 181. Studio.
