This is the reissue by Bachelier, who has only printed a new title with the mention "imprimé en 1797" and that's all! He even used the first few leaves, which are a dedication by the translator Labey to Bonaparte! The first translation into English was that by John D. Blanton, published in 1988. Printing and the Mind of Man 196 : "In his 'Introduction to Mathematical Analysis' Euler did for modern anlysis what Euclid had done for ancient geometry. It contains an exposition of algebra, trigonometry and analytical geometry, both plane and solid, a definition of logarithms as exponents, and important contributions to the theory of equations. He evolved the modern exponential treatment of logarithms, including the fact that each number has an infinity of natural logarithms. In the early chapters there appears for the first time the definition of mathematical function, one of the fundamental concepts of modern mathematics." This work first appeared in Latin in 1748, under the title 'Introductio in analysin infinitorum'. A French translation of the first volume alone was published in 1786. Head of spine a little rubbed. A good copy. Provenance: Prize copy given by the Lycée d'Orléans to a student in the 'mathématiques spéciales' class. -.
