About this Item
1938. 348pp. "This is an Aristophanic comedy, and takes some Aristophanic liberties. It is satirical whenthe author pleases, and hen he cares to be serius, he is very serious indeed. There is no monotony. The story shifts from realism to wild burlesque, and from earnest appeal to uproarious extravagance." Light shelf wear to top edge of clipped jacket. Closed 1cm tear to top edge of front cover. Small stain to front fold-in. Jacket is otherwise in very good condition. Gilt titles to book spine. Some discolouration to top and lower edge. Lower edge has slightly uneven cut. Bookplate to front pastedown bearing author's signature as well as a previous owner's signature. All contents are tight and clean.
