Images of Wolverhampton has been compiled from the collections of the Wolverhampton Photographic Society, one of Britain's longest established amateur photographic clubs.
Over 240 pictures record the changing town (and city) since 1859 - the date of the oldest photograph included here. Although today's city centre is well covered, there are also images of the outlying suburbs, including Penn, Heath Town, Tettenhall and Bilston.

Synopsis:

Wolverhampton's redevelopment has been chronicled since the mid-1940s by Wolverhampton Photographic Society, which was founded in 1888. Their vast collection of unpublished photographs captures, for example, all the areas destroyed by the ring road, which was built in the 1960s. Sometimes photographers captured buildings after tip-offs from the Council, literally hours before demolition began - or even when it was in progress. As well as this graphic portrayal of a changing town, the book contains a fascinating selection of images that capture Wolverhampton's changing social scene since the Second World War.
