Item description from seller

8vo, pp. [ii], 36,[2] blankl with 4 double-page lithograph plans, two signed by 'Elizabeth Drake', and four half-tone photographic plates; some occasional light marginal dust-soiling, and some minor foxing and creasing; in the original drab printed wrappers, head and tail of spine with small loss, upper wrapper split at tail but holding, covers quite heavily dust-soiled; seemingly a presentation copy from one of the authors, signed at the head of upper wrapper 'Isaac Taylor from H.T'. Rare first separate edition of this architectural history of the medieval manor house Ightham Mote in Kent, the first appearance of which appeared in the journal 'Archaeologia Cantiana'. The estate was to remain within the Selby family for nearly 300 years. It was purchased in 1889 by the co-author of the present account, Sir Thomas Colyer-Fergusson, who together with his wife carried out extensive repairs and restoration to the house, after several years of neglect. The property is now owned by the National Trust. It is renown for retaining many of its original medieval feature and it has been described as 'the most complete small medieval manor house in the country'. Not on OCLC, with Library Hub locating one location at the University of Kent.…
