Item description from seller

First edition, presentation copy to the English poet and dramatist John Drinkwater, inscribed by the former prime minister on the front free endpaper: "To John Drinkwater from J. Ramsay MacDonald, a token of friendship and admiration, 1936". Drinkwater's bookplate is on the front pastedown. The following year, Drinkwater dedicated Robinson of England to MacDonald: "In dedicating this book about England to a Scotsman who more than any other has helped to make the history of our time, I do so with a sense of many kindnesses that you have never allowed the cares of office to withhold from those whom you have honoured with your friendship". Their correspondence, from 1924 to 1937, is held at Yale's Beinecke Library. At Home and Abroad collects MacDonald's accounts of his travels around Britain and his journeys overseas. Octavo. Original orange cloth, spine lettered in gilt. Some pencilled sidelining and minor annotations. Spine a little sunned, cloth marked, some spotting. A good copy.
