About this Item
Five large octavo volumes. The first three volumes, dated 1858, 1860, and 1864, are titled History of New England During the Stuart Dynasty. Volumes IV (1875) and V (1890) are titled From the Revolution of the Seventeenth Century to the Revolution of the Eighteenth. In the preface to the Fifth volume (finished by the author's son, and published posthumously) Palfrey says his history will end on July 3, 1775. All volumes fine in publisher's pebbled cloth boards, partially unopened, with maps and illustrations. INSCRIBED BY THE AUTHOR ON FRONT BLANK OF VOL. I TO PETER CHARDON BROOKS, WHOSE BOOKPLATE IS IN EACH VOLUME. The only flaw is foxing to two inserted leaves of publisher's ads. A beautiful and scarce set. Seller Inventory # 010696
