Pickett, whose History was published in 1851. Accounts of the Civil War and Reconstruction and the many subsequent political details are Brown's. A very detailed history, by an Alabaman who taught at Harvard, very scarce in the first edition. A very good copy in green cloth boards, rubbed at extremities, and with darkening to spine and edges.
