Add to basket241p, many ills. by James Edwards (mostly from old photos) + endpaper maps of Berlin and Vienna. No jacket (as issued?). Signed by author on the copyright page, under a large ink stamp "Compliments of the Author copyright 1984." Two printed "1983" publication dates are inked out. "Once upon a time there were a horse and boy named Hans. The horse was unusually sensitive to human beings and, by coincidence, the boy was unusually sensitive to horses." Here psychologist Fernald compares the turn-of-the-20th-century histories of von Osten's educated horse Clever Hans in Berlin and Sigmund Freund's famous young patient Little Hans in Vienna, with his morbid fear of horses. With much on the contemporary issues of "thinking animals," early psychoanalysis, and research methodology in these fields. Very good (back cover irregularly faded).
