Signed by the author on the front free endpaper. Ruth M. Rasey Simpson was a sixth-generation Vermont native, historian, educator, poet, lecturer, and regional author whose work focused on preserving the traditions, history, crafts, architecture, and culture of Vermont and New England. Her writings are recognized for documenting aspects of rural Vermont life that were rapidly disappearing during the twentieth century.
This volume explores the craftsmanship, tools, buildings, traditions, and everyday lives of early Vermonters. Richly illustrated, it serves as an important record of traditional New England woodworking, farming, settlement, and rural culture. The book remains a valuable resource for collectors of Vermont history, Americana, New England studies, folk traditions, and regional history.
Of particular interest is the attractive bookplate of noted geographer and geomorphologist John Ford Shroder Jr. Shroder is a distinguished scholar known internationally for his contributions to geology, geomorphology, mountain studies, and environmental research. Association copies connected to recognized academics and researchers can add historical and research value for collectors.
