Of a Limited edition of 775 copies signed by O'Neill, this is number 356. Large paper edition. Signed by the Nobel prize-winning American playwright on the limitation page. The book is quarter bound in shinning black buckram over textured orange paper batiked in black with flecks of blue. Title and author stamped in gilt on the spine. Dramatically illustrated with nine drawings in shades of blue, tan and black by Alexander King. Printed in an elegant Bodoni type distributed after the limited edition. Striking King drawings engraved and printed by Knudsen Press. The plates have left pale shadows on the facing pages. Deckle edges. Black coated paste-downs and endpapers. First name of previous owner neatly penned ,along with the date, " May 19th, 1929 ", on the page after the ffe. A tiny chip of paper is off at the bottom corner of front cover. Otherwise the book is clean with smooth bright unmarked pages and no tears or signs of damp. Binding is firm. The pale green dust jacket, a King plate mounted on the front cover, is in good condition with small areas of missing paper at the ends of the darkened spine panel. Information on the unclipped front flap indicates that the format of this special edition is uniform to that of the previous limited edition of Emperor Jones. Price indicated was fifteen dollars. The original slipcase is in fair condition with a three inch section of the top panel missing. Label with the title, author and limitation information wrapped around the spine. 8" x 10.25". 114 pp. A beautiful book signed by the master dramatist , in remarkable condition, in the original dust jacket and slipcase.
