An important book, the first of its kind ever produced in the Americas, hand printed on a Chandler job press in Juarez, the printing took 7 years to produce. "This book is the history of the founding of La Mission de Nuestra Senora de Guadalupe del Paso del Norte y de los Mansos.which was founded in Paso del Norte (Juarez) on December 8, 1659. The mission played an integral part in the exploration and settlement of Northern Mexico and the Southwestern United States. Its history is the history of the Catholic church in the days of conquest, the years of development of a new world."--The El Paso Times. An elaborately printed and produced work, the border of each page is a different design, the drawings are in blue and black, Chapter pages are in 4 or 5 different colors, all following a 17th century style of printing. This work is printed entirely in Spanish, with no English translation. The authors placed the majority of this publication with institutions throughout the world, making this work quite scarce. Printed in gilt on the lower portion of the title page is: Felipe Montilla Duarte, Encuadernador. Our copy shows some occasional light edgewear. The important text block and illustrations are in fine, bright condition. This work is signed by illustrator, Jose Cisneros, in his classic, fluid-hand, including his signature in the blank border margins of 5 of his drawings.
