Add to basket1955 FIRST PRINTING of the UK First Edition. Original navy boards with gilt lettering spine. SIGNED by the author, "E. P. Hillary", and SIGNED by Hillary's longtime rope-mate and 1953 Everest workhorse team member, George Lowe, on the short-title page. Lowe was Hillary's rope-mate on many climbs (before & after Everest) and he was the 1953 Everest team member who led the carry to the highest camp above the South Col in support of the summit climb. Other than the author, George Lowe has a bigger role in this book than any other climber. Hillary dedicated this book to George Lowe (and 3 other climbers). First editions of this book signed by both Hillary and Lowe are very uncommon, especially in nice condition. CONDITION: The book is in very good condition with a few light marks to covers but overall quite clean, usual fading to spine (very common for this book), no previous owner names or marks or writing on any pages (other than the signatures of Hillary and Lowe), tight binding, bright clean pages with no foxing (foxing on pages is common for this book), 100% complete. Original dust jacket has light soiling (not bad), minor professional restorations to spine ends (small loss rebacked and colored to match original, original printed price still present on front flap corner. The book measures 209mm tall x 136mm, and has 256 photos, 1 color & 67 b/w photos, 7 maps, several nice sketches. PHOTOS ARE OF THE ACTUAL BOOK BEING OFFERED.
