Winner of the Samuel Johnson Prize as well as the Coasta Book of the Year. Macdonald’s heartfelt memoir detailing her training of an Eurasian goshawk in the year following her father’s death. Though mostly centering around the time training the goshawk, Macdonald said the memoir also contains, “… a shadow biography of T. H. White…”. White was the author of the 1951 book, “The Goshawk,” which is the log of his own attempts to train a goshawk. It was this blending of genres that helped the committee elect his memoir the winner of the Johnson Prize. H is for Hawk was recently adapted to film and premiered at the 52nd Telluride Film Festival to generally positive reviews. An exceptional copy with a fine book in a likewise fine jacket. This book was part of the Greg Harrowing collection auctioned off in 2025.…
