Greensboro is in Guilford county, named after Lord North, Earl of Guilford, which was formed in 1770 from parts of Orange and Rowan counties. The village of Martinsville was the county seat until 1808 when Greensboro was made the county seat by an act of the legislature. Albright was present in Greensboro during the Civil War when Shermanâs troops came through. He includes reminiscences of his youth and anecdotes of the old ways of life and traditions of the town, as well as the history of the founding of Greensboro. This detailed account of the author's life and times offers a unique glimpse into the development of Greensboro, North Carolina.
