Near new hardback with jacket, no owner inscriptions. Jacket has some rubbing, marks and chipping with a couple of small tears. 97 pages. This is the story of Grace Neill, told by her son. It is the record of her influence on the developing social structure of New Zealand. Grace was born in Edinburgh, 1846. She emigrated to NZ in 1892 and in 1893/4 she was appointed the first woman Inspector of Factories in new Zealand. Elizabeth Grace Neill lobbied for passage of laws requiring training and national registration of nurses and midwives; in 1901, New Zealand was the first country in the world to introduce such laws.
