New York: Harper & Row, [1964]. First edition, later printing. In original later issue dust jacket with a price of $3.95, and portrait without hair, but with the 0964 code on the front flap and the three reviews for Lafcadio. Signed by the author on the half-title "Best Wishes. Shel Silverstein". Octavo (8 5/8 x 7 inches; 220 x 178 mm). Publisher's original pictorial binding. The binding is tight and the boards are crisp and bright. Probably unread. Dust jacket is about fine, with just a one-inch closed tear to bottom of front panel, and some minimal darkening to inside edges. Overall an near fine presentation copy. "The Giving Tree, first published in 1964, is a children's book written and illustrated by Shel Silverstein. The story is a short moral tale about a relationship between a young boy and a tree in a forest. It tells the account of how the tree loves the boy, and helps the boy with his needs throughout his life, from the boy's childhood until his golden years.
