Matted and framed with a plaque describing Ruth's claim to fame which reads, "George Herman 'Babe' Ruth 1895-1948 'Babe' Ruth won fame as one of the greatest baseball players of all time. His record of 714 home runs stood for 39 years until Hank Aaron beat the record in 1974. In 1914, Ruth joined the Boston Red Sox and became a successful pitcher. In 1920, he was traded to the New York Yankees playing in the outfield regularly. In 1927, Ruth set a record of 60 home runs in a season. The Yankees released Ruth after the 1934 season. He finished his career with the Boston Braves in 1935 and was named to the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1936. In near fine condition. The entire piece measures 18.1 inches by 15.9 inches. American baseball legend George Herman "Babe" Ruth Jr. began his MLB career as a stellar left-handed pitcher for the Boston Red Sox, but achieved his greatest fame as a slugging outfielder for the New York Yankees. He established a record number of MLB batting records including career home runs (714), runs batted in (2,213) and slugging percentage (.690). During his career, he was the target of intense press and public attention and his sometimes controversial lifestyle was tempered by his willingness to do good by visiting children at hospitals and orphanages.
