Probably inscribed by the author or his wife, Gertrude: "To Jack on his birthday/ with best of wishes/ Gertrude and Jimmie/ March 4, 1946." Name in ink on endpaper of Brig. General John Christmas, probably the recipient. A Good internally clean and solid hard cover copy without a dust jacket. Light cover soiling. The author, Colonel James M. Phalen, served in the Medical Corps, U.S. Army and after retirement as the editor of The Military Surgeon, the monthly journal of the Association of Military Surgeons of the United States.
