Add to basket6 etched landscape views with small figures, oblong folio [430mm x 290 mm], signed and dated in the plate with Cooper's imprint, sewn as issued in original blue wrappers, with white paper spine and white blank label, a little bent and worn at corners, light waterstain to lower margin, else a good clean set, FIRST EDITION of a complete set of Richard Cooper's darkly romantic landscape etchings incorporating small figures, styles of etching no-doubt learnt from the artist's extensive work in Italy. The British Museum print department lists and displays online two such sets, this one dated 1799 and a second dated 1800. Of this one the curator comments 'One ste of the 1799 series is bound together in blue wrappers, with the trade label of a firm of printsellers and art suppliers, J & W Munn, pasted on the front, and several of the prints have scribbles in ink and pencil, suggesting that it might have served as a drawing book.'.
