Item description from seller

First edition of the author's first book, inscribed on title page. Unpaginated, [32] pp. 1 vols. 8vo. Inscribed twice to Sybil Landau: first very briefly on the half title - "To S" - then more intimately on the title page: "To Sybil - I always knew you were capable: I had forgotten you were beautiful: I begin to realize that you are also a woman - Good Luck in it. / Audre Lorde" Though she was featured in anthologies throughout the 1960s, The First Cities was Lorde's first stand-alone book of poetry, and features an introduction by her friend and fellow poet, Diane di Prima, who Lorde attended Hunter College High School with. While whatever flame that may have burned in 1968 did not last, their friendship endured until the end of Lorde's sadly abbreviated life in 1992. Ochre wrappers printed in black, staple-bound; very minor tanning to page edges. Fine Unpaginated, [32] pp. 1 vols. 8vo First edition of the author's first book, inscribed on title page.…
