Spine discoloured, cloth spotted, inscribed by the author to Hudson Fysh, some foxing, otherwise a good copy in dust-jacket. First edition. Signed by the author. A story of half a century of aviation. The author discusses the claims regarding the Frenchman, Ader, being the first to have flown in a heavier-than-air machine in the later 19th century and establishes the claim of the Wright Brothers. In addition, Geoffrey Dorman recounts several important flights of the first half of the 20th century such as: the first crossing of the Channel, the London to Manchester flight, London to Paris, the England to Australia and the Battle of Britain races including the record-breaking de Havilland Comet flight.
