xiv, [1], 181 pp., frontispiece lithograph, 3 lithographed plates with tissue guards, original blind-stamped cloth, lightly soiled, appendix, title gilt on faded spine, 2 leaves loose, from Bath Public Library with usual blindstamps and label verso front cover, shelf reference on spine, dedication page lightly soiled at lower margin, otherwise copy in overall good condition.A Presentation copy, inscribed by the author on title page. Forsyth, 1802-69, the successful Quebec business man, whose firm prospered in the fur trade and held the monopoly as the East India Company agent, made a leisurely tour of the Mediterranean and Near East in 1860. The Appendix contains his speech of 1858 in favour of a railway to the Pacific. An account of a journey made by this Canadian author through the Mediterranean to Malta, Egypt, Palestine, Beirut, Tripoli, Smyrna, Constantinople and back to England.
