Cambridge: City Council (John Wilson and Son), 1881. First edition (BAL 8324, under T.W. Higginson). Original brown cloth, gilt-lettered, elaborately decorated in gilt and black, illustrated, 163 pp. A presentation copy: "Moncure D. Conway with best regards of Thos. Wentworth Higginson Cambridge, Mass. U.S.A." Conway was a writer, an abolitionist, and a transcendentalist. Higginson contributed two addresses, during the Afternoon Exercises and at the Banquet. Other contributors were Henry W. Longfellow ("Remarks" and "From My Armchair", a poem) and Oliver Wendell Holmes ("Remarks", and "Home", a poem). Some wear and soiling, a Good copy.
