Item description from seller

12mo, hardcover. First edition. Taped in on the front endpapers are two 1883 holograph letters from Eugene field to a Miss Timberman, one including the envelope, also in Field's hand. The first, dated "Denver, June 29th 1883" refers to a letter from Field's friend "Mr. Bryan" in Idaho Springs, passing on information about room and board rates in Idaho Springs. The letter concludes, "I am at the Tribune office tomorrow afternoon at 3 o'clock. If it pleases you to call, I will take pleasure in advising you as to your proposed visit to the mountains. Yours very sincerely, Eugene Field". The second letter, dated 9 days later, is a letter of introduction reading "Let me introduce Col. Sisty, father of the gentleman who is proprietor of Sisty's ranch at Brookvale." Also on the endpaper is the ownership inscription "Timberman - Keokuk - Iowa," presumably the recipient of the two letters. The letters are taped down with old brittle cellophane. The binding is good, with moderate overall wear.
