Presentation copy, signed and inscribed by author 'To my shipmate James T. Wiles With many pleasant memories of our years together Donald Macmillan Sept. 10, 1948.' Also includes a pencil note from author presenting the book. Also features an ink stamp (and postage stamp) marking the 'last' voyage of the arctic schooner Bowdoin (Macmillan's ship). In fact it went on to complete many more. A good copy of the first edition in original gilt-stamped navy blue cloth (wear to cloth, spine gilt dull; some spotting to edges).
