Item description from seller

Up for sale is a rare, collectible first edition hardcover copy of Escape From Corregidor by Edgar D. Whitcomb, published by the Henry Regnery Company in 1958. This harrowing, critically acclaimed World War II memoir delivers the gripping first-hand account of Edgar Whitcomb, a B-17 navigator who arrived in the Philippines just before the Japanese invasion. When Bataan and Corregidor fell, Whitcomb refused to give up. His incredible journey features a death-defying, eight-hour night swim through shark-infested waters to the mainland, survival in snake-infested jungles, and a desperate, two-year civilian identity hoax ("Robert Fred Johnson, mining employee") that kept him alive through brutal Japanese imprisonment, torture, and starvation. An exceptional and deeply candid piece of military history written by a man who later went on to serve as the 43rd Governor of Indiana.

Store description

This collection comes from my late dad Steven Keyser. He was an avid collector with a focus on World War 2 and submarine books and collectibles. His collection does span everything from war, music, celebrities , the literary classics and many more. Many of these books are either inscribed or signed. He collected from authentic sources and many times he got the inscription directly from the source.
