80 Pp. Brown Cloth, Gilt, Over Blue Boards, Gilt. Printed In Switzerland. First Printing. Light Wear, Gilt Clear And Complete, Former Owner's Bookplate. Signed By Sturmann And Dated In Munich In January 1930. Manfred Sturmann (1903-1989) Was A German-Israeli Writer. His Grandfather Was An Orthodox Preacher Of The Jewish Community In Osterode (East Prussia) , His Father Lived As A Goldsmith In Königsberg. Manfred Sturmann Attended The Altstädtische Gymnasium In Königsberg. He Joined The Zionist Youth Organization Blau-Weiß . Sturmann Studied Economics, German And Art History At The Universities Of Königsberg, Wroclaw And Munich. He Began A Commercial Apprenticeship In 1923 At A Publishing House In Munich. Sturmann Wrote Poems, Literary Portraits, Stories And Reviews, Which He Published In The East German Monatshefte And Other Literary Journals Published In Gdansk . In 1923 He Transferred Old Hebrew Lyric Into German. In 1924 He Married Lina Schindel. His First Volume Of Poetry Was Published In 1929. The Poetry Book Die Erben Received In 1929 The Poetry Prize Of The City Of Munich (And On The Copyright Page States "Herausgegeben Unter Forderung Der Stadt Munchen"). Sturmann Emigrated In 1938 To Palestine . His Attempt To Start A Second Career As A Writer There Proved Impossible. He Found Employment At The Bezalel Museum In Jerusalem From 1940 To 1947, Was Conscripted Into The Palestinian War As A Soldier In 1948 , And Then Worked In The Social Welfare Of Irgun Olej Merka For Immigrants From Europe. His Literary Works In Israel, Even Those In Hebrew, Were Unsuccessful: He Remained An Israeli Poet Of German Tongue.
