About this Item

Published by Joseph Hewitt, Bristol, in 1850. Inscribed by E. P. Sanders of Clifton whom one assumes is the author (see 3rd photograph). A First Edition. Size: 10 x 18 cms or 4 1/4 x 7 1/4 inches. Page number: 226. Oblong. Hardcover. Brown cloth boards with gilt lettering. A mnemonic aid for children with a few of the pages left blank for the children to fill in. The dates of world history are to be memorised with the help of random words - Big ape, Crow, Boxer, Mouse Go - which are printed on the right hand side of the numbered event. Condition; Very Good.The cover is worn at the corners; the book has been well used. A clasp once secured the book but now only a half of the clasp remains. The binding is secure though there is evidence of historic repair to the first hinge. One page sits a little proud of the rest. The pages are occasionally marked by light foxing but are in the main clean. They are extensively annotated in pencil and very occasionally, very neatly, in ink. A page of penciled notes has been tucked in among the pages. A child has made a rubbing of a 20 franc coin on one.
