Rare postcard signed by famed Italian tenor Enrico Caruso. One page with the Hotel Cecil, London coat of arms, the post card is addressed to Miss Nelly Bachman in Caruso's hand and signed by him on the verso, "Enrico Caruso London 1906." Caruso has added a self-caricature beneath his inscription. In near fine condition. Italian operatic tenor Enrico Caruso sang to great acclaim at the major opera houses of Europe and the Americas, appearing in a wide variety of roles from the Italian and French repertoires that ranged from the lyric to the dramatic. Caruso also made approximately 260 commercially released recordings from 1902 to 1920. Caruso's 25-year career, stretching from 1895 to 1920, included 863 appearances at the New York Metropolitan Opera before he died at the age of 48. Thanks in part to his tremendously popular phonograph records, Caruso was one of the most famous personalities of his day and his fame has endured to the present. He was one of the first examples of a global media celebrity. Beyond records, Caruso's name became familiar to millions through newspapers, books, magazines, and the new media technology of the 20th century: cinema, the telephone and telegraph. Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No photographer listed. Dark brown and black wooden frame with a few chips and scuffs, inside is a large black mat over smaller white mat. Frame is not in great condition; photo postcard looks to be in very good condition with the exception of a small tear by top edge but has not been examined out of frame. INSCRBED IN ITALIAN AND SIGNED BY OPERA STAR ENRICO CARUSO, who adds the date "13 August, 1917". Inscription is in black ink over a dark sepia photo, so it is a bit hard to make out what exactly he has written. Affixed to back of frame is a short biography of Caruso and info on the acquisition of the postcard from a Mike Fensler in Grass Lake, Michigan. "This photo postcard was inscribed on 13 August 1917 when Caruso was performing a concert at the Tatro Colon in Buenos Aires, Argentina. It was acquired from Hernan Suarez of Buenos Aires, 11 September 2002". Caruso was an acclaimed operatic first lyric and dramatic tenor, generally considered to be the first international recording star. Extra postage required for shipping. Seller Inventory # 22-7504
