Item description from seller

Tom Wolfe, The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test. Farrar, Straus & Giroux, 1968. New York: First edition and first printing, signed by the author on the front free end paper. Octavo, 413 pages. Publishers white boards, multicolored gilt lettering to spine. Light blue top stain. Original publishers dust wrapper with jacket design by Milton Glaser. Original price of $5.95 present to front flap. . One of Wolfe s most enduring works, this book, written in a style referred to as New Journalism, presents the first hand account of Ken Kesey and his followers, often referred to as, The Merry Pranksters , as they consume psychedelic drugs in an attempt to expand their consciousness and achieve a sort of transcendence. Wolfe takes us to parties referred to as Acid Tests as we, the readers encounter popular subculture figures along the route. The Group, led by Kesey and Neal Cassady (of On The Road fame) travel across the country in their tricked out bus the call Further. The book is now seen as a great achievement and is often cited as one of the works that helped bridge the beat generation to the hippie generation. . The book is NF with bright white boards, so often seen tattered and soiled. Top stain lightly soiled and faded. Sharp Corners, tight and straight spine. Clean internally with only the author s rather dramatic signature. Dust Jacket in NF with a small crease to front flap by price. Trace edge wear. Bright colors on the spine and panels, not price clipped and just remarkably well preserved overall. Scarce for condition and signature.
