About this Item
VG: tight and unmarked, with some age spotting to front and back covers. Inscribed on inside front cover: "for Frank McEwen/ Herbert Read/ Paris, July 1945." A wonderful presentation copy of this pamphlet, a "statement on the theory of education." McEwen, a painter and prominent advocate of art, staged a 1945 exhibition in Paris of works from Herbert Read's collection of paintings by the likes of Matisse, Bonnard, and Picasso. Later that year, McEwen staged Henry Moore's first exhibition in Paris. In the early 1950s, on Read's advice, McEwen became director of the National Gallery of Zimbabwe. Read -- lauded as a poet, literary critic, philosopher, art historian, and anarchist -- died in 1968. McEwen died in 1994. 32 pages. Seller Inventory # 0146

Store Description
If I've mischaracterized a book, please let me know, and I'm happy to accept returns for refunds.
Orders usually ship within three business days. I generally pack books in boxes, with padding, and unless they're unusually bulky or heavy -- more than four pounds or so -- I won't ask for additional shipping costs. For domestic media-mail buyers, anyway. Prices for international and even priority shipping can get *insane*.
