RICE, Alice Hegan. OUR ERNIE. NY: D. Appleton-Century Company, 1939. Small 8vo., green cloth, stamped in gilt. First Edition, first printing. Signed, with the pencil signature of "Augusta Wallace, 1939" on the front endpaper. There was stage actress around this time period from Louisville, Kentucky, by this name. She appeared in the 1940s in Erskine Caldwell's play "Tobacco Road" as Pearl. Rice is also a Louisville-born author. I have been unable to obtain an example of Wallace's signature so this association is merely speculation at this point. Very Good (covers bright; contents clean & tight). $50.00.
