Archibald Constable & Co 1897 first edition, first printing, later issue. (The Shoulder of Shasta ad issue). Graham Greene's personal copy, signed by him to end page. There's some debate whether it played an influence on some of Greene's writing. Cover material, and spine is quite grubby, much foxing to end pages. Both could be cleaned up significantly by an expert without being considered restoration. Reading curve to spine, binding still tight. Front gutter has had a split glued with acid free glue, but isn't that visible. Despite this, an excellent overall copy of a very rare classic. Comes with our company COA. Note: Issues are intentional changes/variants by the publisher during first manufacture while States are misprints. There may be more than two Issues, in this case the addition of an advertisement, then States within Issues. Importantly, both are interesting features, but have little impact on value. Condition and scarcity determines the value of first editions. Seller Inventory # 002563
