Superb and tight first edition of this volume in editor Ruth Nanda Anshen's "Credo Series" -- here the famed father (to cite front jacket flap) "discusses his personal feelings about man and his relationship to God, and how he came to hold these beliefs." Front flyleaf bears a Trident Press bookplate boldly inscribed and signed by the author: "To / Fr. Karl G Schroeder / in memory of / pleasant companionship / from / Martin C. D'Arcy SJ." D'Arcy (1888-1976) was an English priest , philosopher and well-known intellectual as well as friend and companion to many highbrow English authors. The book's recipient, Father Karl G. Schroeder (1910-99), was a long-time beloved English professor known for Chaucer and Shakespeare courses at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa (1938-94).
