The documents reveal intimate glimpses of many early Canadian statesmen such as Sir John A. MacDonald, Sir Alexander Galt, Sir Leonard Tilly and Alexander MacKenzie, In addition, as the subtitle suggests, the book is closely concerned with Lord Lorne himself, and his royal consort, Princess Louise, daughter of Queen Victoria.
