In what promises to be the most eagerly awaited cricket book for some years, former England coach David Lloyd tells the full story about his time in charge of a struggling team, his clashes with authority and the difficult characters he has managed in his career.
For three turbulent and frequently controversial years, David Lloyd has suffered the diatribe of press and public alike as coach to an England team that has become the laughing stock of world cricket.
His autobiography is not your run-of-the-mill celebratory jaunt through a trophy-laden career in sport. It is a warm, witty yet painstakingly honest appraisal of Lloyd’s attempts to rebuild a tarnished England team, to raise morale and strive to modernise what had become an outdated approach to playing the game in this country.
His was not a smooth or straightforward assignment. He clashed repeatedly with the counties in his efforts to change the structure of the game, he was hounded by the press for his less than subtle style of man-management, and he was severely reprimanded more than once by the England Cricket Board over his passionate outbursts in defence of his team.
Accounts of these political battles alongside his remarkable frankness in recalling his relationship with key personnel – Phil Tufnell, Andy Caddick, Nasser Hussain and Graham Gooch to name a few – provide a fascinating and at times damning picture of the strengths and weaknesses of cricket in this country.
Now, as he contemplates a future in television commentary, all the stories that could never be told while he was in the England job can be revealed once and for all.

Store description
About Prelovedbooks - I am a small amateur collector selling a small number of books solely to buy more books! I consider myself a book collector rather than a bookselling business but collectors always need the funds to buy the next great book for their collection. I specialize in modern first editions (first printing in most cases), especially signed by the author, and mainly UK editions, which make ideal imaginative birthday and Christmas presents - such as Michael Morpurgo's 40th Anniversary edition of War Horse, signed directly to the book, not a bookplate. To me, a signed copy means the author has handled and added a little more of themself to that particular book when they would never generally see the vast majority that go on sale. I personally like and collect signed UK crime and thrillers from authors such as Frederick Forsyth and Jack Higgins, from current authors like Lee Child and Robert Harris, which also incidentally make great Xmas presents for Dads and Grandads! I am buying some new books for resale from authors I consider collectable, and books that hopefully will only increase in value. I also buy at auction houses, book fairs, or occasionally over the internet, so these books are almost never new, but I try and sell only books in very good or fine condition. I also have a few signed autobiographies and some odd items such as signed cinema posters. I have a number of signed books for sale by authors such as Billy Connolly, David Attenborough, Philip Pullman, Bill Bryson, Julia Donaldson and Gerald Durrell amongst many others. I strive to be honest with a book's description as I would expect to be treated in return, and I will pack and send securely. As a book lover I understand the joy of safely receiving a much wanted book in good condition. As a buyer my real pet hate is signed books offered for sale with a stock photo of the cover only - so essentially I'm buying something blind? Is it really that much effort to add a photo of the signature? That's why I'll always have photos of the actual signed books I have to offer on AbeBooks. Thank you for reading and please check out all my signed books. You never know!…
