Add to basketNear Fine in a Near Fine dustjacket. Tan boards quarterbound in ivory cloth. The spine is stamped in metallic red. Octavo. Map-endpapers. [lxvii] + 810pps. There is mild bumping to the bottom of the front board and to the lower tips. Also, there is an incidental, faint and thin, 1/8" pen line near the bottom of the fore-edge. Otherwise clean, tight, square, and bright. The text is immaculate; no previous ownership markings. The dustjacket, glossy in a mylar sleeve, is slightly sunned, otherwise as new; the original price is intact. Inscribed by the author to the original owner, 'with best wishes' on the half-title page. A very nice, collector's-quality copy. ".To the banks of the Ohio came men and women willing to face any hazard or hardship to stake their claim, from cultured enterpreneurs such as George Washington to trailblazers like Daniel Boone, as rough and ready as the land itself. Here too was grizzled John Wetzel and his wife, determined to carve a farm out of the forest.young Betty Zane, who showed uncommon valor and quick thinking under Indian attack.bold and visionary Ebenezer Zane, who sought to bring some rule of law to the lawless wild.and Samuel Brady, a soldier of fierce intelligence -- and fierce hatreds. For them, the pilgrimage west marked the beginning of a dream. But for others -- the Shawnee, the Delaware, the Wyandot -- it marked the beginning of the end. And in the conflict that ensued, the Ohio came to be known as 'that dark and bloody river that leads to a dark and bloody land.' Drawing on a wealth of research, both scholarly and anecdotal -- including letters, diaries, and journals of the era -- Allan W. Eckert has delivered a landmark of historical authenticity, unprecedented in scope and detail."
