Item description from seller

A pleasing first edition set of Powell's extraordinary 12-volume A Dance to the Music of Time, comprising NINE FIRST PRINTINGS and three 1970s reprints (vols. 1-3). Laid-in is a charming postcard with a portrait of Anthony Powell to one side and the author’s signed and handwritten note to the other, touching upon the subject of his grand-daughter going up to Oxford (dated 1988). Seven books are at least Near Fine, while the other five are Very Good or Very Good+. There is a previous owner’s name and date to two volumes (A Buyer’s Market and The Acceptance World) and a bookplate to the front pastedown of Casanova’s Chinese Restaurant; the other titles are free from names and inscriptions etc. There is light foxing to the edge of the page block of At Lady Molly’s and The Kindly Ones. Each is complete with its original dustwrapper, all of which are Very Good or better; nine are unclipped and three are clipped (A Question of Upbringing, The Acceptance World, and The Soldier’s Art). Overall: A Question of Upbringing (1977, 9th impression): Fine/Near Fine. A Buyer's Market (1974, 6th impression): Fine/Very Good+. The Acceptance World (1972, 5th impression): Near Fine+/Very Good+.
