David's mother has recently been abandoned by her husband, and David's grandmother, who is struggling with dementia, obsesses over a plastic Santa Claus decoration coming loose from the roof of her house. The narrative slowly builds to a terrifying, ambiguous climax. THE DECORATIONS was later selected as the lead story by editor Stephen Jones for The Mammoth Book of Best New Horror (2006).
