Synopsis
This new book, "The DANIEL J. MORRELL-Lost, But No Longer Forgotten," announced in July, 2020, is about the third largest shipwreck ever in the Great Lakes, the DANIEL J. MORRELL, lost on Lake Huron on November 29, 1966, with only one survivor, Dennis Hale. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE BOOKS WILL ARRIVE HERE FROM THE PRINTER ON AUGUST 15, 2020 and WILL BE SHIPPED MEDIA MAIL THE NEXT DAY!! The author, John DeBeck, was a 33 year friend of Hale, who passed in 2015. DeBeck, a well-known Great Lakes Marine Historian, spent 30 months of his life from February 2018 to now, trying to relocate the 29 families of the deceased sailors to get their stories and photos. He was successful in each case, but as the story unfolded, lots of questions floated to the surface. Determined to find out the true cause of the wreck, he formed a research team, which included legendary diver and researcher David Trotter, who was the first man to locate the bow of the MORRELL in 1979 and relocate the stern on the same day! Trotter's group, Undersea Research Associates, joined with DeBeck to perform a series of side scan sonar imaging excursions and dives to the MORRELL to locate clues and answers not available in 1966, and passed over many times since then. Also joining the team was Bruce Halverson, a vintage ship expert and marine engineer with Fincantieri Marine Group/Bay Shipbuilding, who worked with members of the Fincantieri team to do analysis, research, and testing. These men, and many others, have helped to disprove the Coast Guard Board of Inquiry report and many things written by previous authors. History is rewritten in FACTS with the research and findings.
