Item description from seller

The Codex, Number Four, 1986. A handmade collaborative artists' book produced in Denver, Colorado. Ring bound and hand assembled, this volume is a compilation of original art, prints, mixed media, poetry, collage, xerox work, and sculptural elements. As stated in the introduction, there is no particular order to the pages. It was conceived as a direct link between artist and public. Copyright 1986 by The Codex. Hand numbered No. 138. Editors Chandler Romeo and Reed Weimer. Published from 1512 West 37th Avenue, Denver, Colorado. Contributors include Phil Bender, Joe Craighead, Clare Forster, Scott B. Vickers, Laura K. Burchard, Brian Shaffer, Mark A. Lunning, Donald Carleno, Martha Keating de Luna, Kate McGuinness, Anthony D. Ortega, Paul Schroder, Catherine Nieland, Therese Edson, Cynthia D. All works in this copy are signed on the reverse by the respective artists. Several pieces are additionally editioned, including examples marked edition 180 and other numbered impressions. Notable signed works include S. B. Vickers, Martha K. Daniels dated 1986, and Mark A. Lunning dated 6-86, among others. Mixed media components include mounted clay elements, handmade and torn papers, serigraphic and xerographic processes, and conceptual text based works referencing subjects such as Moby Dick and nuclear era commentary. A scarce and substantial example of mid 1980s regional conceptual and collaborative art publishing. Strong representation of Denver's alternative art scene and artist book culture.
