The Codex, Number Four, 1986. A handmade collaborative artists' book produced in Denver, Colorado. Ring bound and hand assembled, this volume is a compilation of original art, prints, mixed media, poetry, collage, xerox work, and sculptural elements. As stated in the introduction, there is no particular order to the pages. It was conceived as a direct link between artist and public.

Mixed media components include mounted clay elements, handmade and torn papers, serigraphic and xerographic processes, and conceptual text based works referencing subjects such as Moby Dick and nuclear era commentary.
A scarce and substantial example of mid 1980s regional conceptual and collaborative art publishing. Strong representation of Denver's alternative art scene and artist book culture.
Original ring binding intact. Pages intentionally vary in stock, texture, and dimension. Light handling wear consistent with handmade production. No major structural issues observed.

The Martha K. Daniels 'Urban Fossils' mixed media page shows stress and tearing at two of the punched ring binder holes along the left margin, with minor paper loss at the edge. The artwork itself, including the mounted clay elements and signed lower margin, remains intact. The sheet is secure within the binder.
