This is a rare original hardcover published by Four Winds Press; Clifford's original hardcover publisher; with no library past. Rectangular in shape; approximately 6.25 inches tall, and 8.25 inches across. Early hardcover copies from the Clifford the Big Red Dog Series published by Four Winds Press are highly collectible and virtually impossible to locate without a library past of some sort. This is a rare, unique exception. Binding and hinges are sound. Book is tight and clean. Illustrated panels are super-bright and clean thanks to years of DJ protection. Incredibly, book is in near fine condition. Only flaws keeping book from grading fine are 1) minor, light shelf-rubbing (barely) and 2) a previous owner's initials written in ink on FFEP; (easily covered with the included loosely laid-in signed bookplate by author, illustrator and Clifford creator, the late Norman Bridwell.) As for the original DJ, it too is rare; especially without any library past. $2.97 price intact on DJ flap. Black-front DJ shows a couple of minor stress lines near edge and a small open chip at crown. Rear of DJ shows a tiny chip at bottom edge; minimal soiling and an old faint bookseller price in the corner; in old ink. DJ flap has a closed tear. Clifford the Big Red Dog was named the Official mascot of Scholastic Books. After his initial creation, the Clifford series has spawned 75+ titles. The Clifford books have sold in excess of 150 million units; and has been translated into 13 languages. Offered here is the book that started it all. First edition, third printing. Near fine/VG.
