About this Item
Stated First Edition. Signed by the author on the copyright page. This is a very hard-to-find book. I found only one other for sale on the Internet. However, my copy will be the only one with a dust jacket and apparently the only First edition. As you can see from the photographs, the covers of the book itself have some white discoloration, particularly on the back. Not quite sure what caused it. I was able to rub off some of it with my nail but most of it is going to remain. The book is square and straight, very solidly bound, no issues in that regard. And the interior of the book is in excellent condition. Not only are the pages tightly bound, they are exceptionally clean. That includes the inside covers and endpapers. And they don't evidence any wear, no creasing or dogeared corners. There aren't any markings in the book and there aren't any attachments in the book. Finally, with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere in the book. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photographs. I've rated it only Good. That's because of the small loss off the top edge of the front cover, the wear and slight loss at the top edge of the spine, and because that thin white vertical line you can see on the front cover is a tear (though possibly the thinnest tear I've ever seen on a dust jacket). Because it is so thin it will appear only to be a scratch. Positively, the jacket is clean, and the flaps are in excellent condition. Also, as I mentioned, it is the Only dust jacket in town. The jacket, which is NOT the price-clipped will be fitted with a protective cover. Dean Ayer may have developed his penchant for satire as a student at Lafayette College in Pennsylvania in 1897 when it's Science Hall burned down for the second time, and the professor of Ethics and Morals confessed to setting it on fire. From the dust jacket front flap 'This hilarious and irreverent satire on higher education, by a retired dean, will warm the hearts of all readers.'. Seller Inventory # 001688
